At Premier Medical Aesthetics, we are all about making men and women feel confident in their own skin! We are excited to now offer Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal. Most people have heard of laser hair removal and understand that it permanently removes unwanted hair in areas such as the face, bikini, legs, and armpits. The IPL machine is similar to laser hair removal but works in a slightly different way. So let’s break down what Intense Pulsed Light hair removal is exactly, how it is different from laser hair removal, and why you’re going to LOVE it!

What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal?

IPL hair removal uses a broad spectrum light to remove unwanted hair. The light resembles that of a light bulb but is much more intense. No, this isn’t a DIY suggestion for using a lightbulb at home to remove your hair! The spectrum light uses a focused wavelength which is emitted on to the skin. The intense energy from the light is distributed onto the skin and targets areas with high pigment, such as hair. The hair is then heated up and the root is destroyed; thus, stopping the hair growth cycle.

What is the Difference Between IPL and Laser Hair Removal?

While the IPL uses a broad spectrum light to eliminate the hair follicle, laser hair removal is a single concentrated beam of intense light. IPL treatments cover a broader section of hair during treatment due to the broader light which cuts down on the treatment time. Laser treatment sessions may take longer because it kills each hair follicle individually. Some report that IPL hair removal is not as painful as laser treatment due to the disbursement of light as opposed to a solitary concentrated beam zapping each hair with laser treatments. Both IPL and laser hair removal are not effective on light colored or gray hairs because they seek pigment called melanin. Multiple treatments are necessary for both the IPL and laser because the treatments only affect the hair that is in the early stages of the growth cycle. Therefore, multiple treatments will be necessary to make sure each follicle is destroyed during the early growth phase. Most clients need 4-6 treatments, depending on your skin color, hair color and texture of the hair.

What Can I Expect After an IPL Hair Removal Appointment?

After you’ve taken the plunge, you may notice mild redness, itchiness, or tenderness on the treated surface area. The discomfort is minimal and goes away within 24 hours. Results are not immediate and initially you will still notice hair at the treatment site. Hairs that are still present will grow at a slower rate, be lighter in color, and will be thinner and less coarse.

Why Am I Going to LOVE an IPL Hair Removal Session?

I am confident you are going to love your IPL results. You won’t need to endlessly shave, pluck, or wax those pesky areas! We love that the IPL is safe, effective, and affordable. Now men and women can enjoy permanent hair removal anywhere on the body.
